DR. DALTON ABDALA

Earned his Bachelor degree in Agronomy (2006) and Master of Science degree in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition from the Federal University of Viçosa (2008) and his Ph.D. in Environmental Soil Chemistry from the University of Delaware, USA (2013). Dr. Abdala has experience in soil fertility, soil management and soil chemistry, focusing his studies on the agronomic potential of agricultural residues, particularly, on the utilization of residues derived from agricultural operations for crop production and their fate in the environment. His research is also committed to understanding the geochemistry of environmentally relevant elements in soils. Nowadays, he serves as a researcher at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory, LNLS.

Dr. Abdala enjoys music, riding his bike and is a passionate for wines.  And he is always uncomfortable referring to himself in the third person.

DR. RAUL FREITAS

Dr. Freitas is currently a staff scientist of the LNLS responsible for the IR beamline. His background is mainly on applying synchrotron techniques on the study of new materials. Got his PhD in the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and University of Guelph (Canada) studying semiconductor quantum dots via x-ray multiple diffraction. Worked as a Post-Doc scientist for HP Labs studying metal-oxide systems for the developing of memristive devices. Currently is working with nano-optics and his main activities are related to the application of nano-FTIR on the study of biological tissues and fibers, nano-devices based on few atomic layers, metal-oxide nano junctions, nano-domains impurities in minerals, nano-polymers.

DR. DOUGLAS GALANTE

Received his B.S. in Molecular Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2003 ), his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences at the IAG - USP in 2009 and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the same institute up until 2012. Dr. Galante is currently a researcher at the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS / CNPEM), where he has conducted research work on multiparametric simulations of planetary and space environments with applications in Astrobiology and Astrochemistry, on a theoretical and experimental way. He is the operational coordinator of the Laboratory of Astrobiology (AstroLab) and research associate at the Center for Research in Astrobiology, NAP- Astrobio (IAG / USP). Dr. Galante has experience in the fields of astrobiology, especially in the study of the interaction between radiation and life, from micro to macro-scale using experimental and theoretical tools, especially synchrotron radiation; and astronomy, with emphasis on stellar evolution, working mainly in the study of high-energy events such as Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) and nuclear astrophysics.

DR. FLÁVIO VICENTIN

Graduated in Physics from the State University of Campinas (1986), MSc (1990) and Ph.D. (1999) in Physics from the State University of Campinas. Since 1992, Dr. Vicentin works at the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory, Campinas/SP and, nowadays, he is in charge of the Soft X-rays Spectroscopy (SXS) beamline as a researcher. In 2002, he was a visiting professor in the department of Physics at the Federal University of Sergipe. He developed some scientific projects using X-rays absorption spectroscopy with synchrotron light at LURE (Laboratoire pour l'Utilisation du Rayonnement électromagnétique), located at the University of Paris-Sud – Orsay/France as an experimental part of his Ph.D. Dr. Vicentin has experience in physics, with emphasis on X-ray spectroscopy in biological and the environment systems, mainly in the following topics: instrumentation and X-rays optics (mirrors, monochromators, experimental stations, etc.), synchrotron radiation, electronic and magnetic properties of materials, X-rays photoemission and absorption spectroscopies.
